It is a very well made flute, high quality instrument. It will meet the needs of a broad range of flutists, from advancing to advanced, playing classical jazz, and / or latin. The head joint can always be altered and changed to suit a specific playing style (please read HEAD JOINT section below). This flute is not recommended for a young just starting out grade school student (due to cost), but could be used by a talented advancing student, amateur adult, conservatory student, professional, and jazz / reed professional. Headjoint selection will take this flute from classical to jazz to latin. HEAD JOINT This flute comes with a Prof. cut Yamaha EC head joint. If you wish, we will work with you to select a different head joint. We have a nice selection of Yamaha Prof. head joints in stock and also higher grade Prof. head joints that will completely change the tone of this flute, such as our sterling David Williams with solid 14kt gold lip plate (adds more color and depth to your tone), hand cut Prof. Sterling Tom Green. With Yamaha brand flutes, you may change the head joint at any time and achieve a very different tonal quality. Yamaha flutes blend with and take on the tonal quality of different head joints very well; probably the best flute on the market to change out the head joint and wow – sounds like a different flute !
