Comments: Nestor Torres used this flute on his Grammy nominated CD "Treasures of the Heart". The flute is illustrated on the CD jacket. The title track gives a great treat of tone, articulation, and flexibility, thanks to Nestor, and this flute. This CD can be heard at: http://www.rhapsody.com/nestor-torres/treasures-of-the-heart. Nestor can be seen and heard playing this flute at the Heineken Jazz fest in 2005: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jOvMx3d_cpY Material: Made of silver, with wooden headjoint by Howell Roberts. Gold springs. System: Open hole, drawn tone holes, inline G, Deveau scale, .o16 tube, B foot. Wooden headjoint thinned, with silver tenon inserted just a short way into head. This flute and headjoint combo has belonged to Nestor Torres, and was used on his recordings, "Talk to Me", and the Grammy nominated, "Treasure of the Heart". Alan Weiss, Artist in Residence of the Haynes Co. and one of the most congenial people in the Flute Business, has supplied us with the following comments on this flute: “LD stands for Lew Deveau scale. 13 means it was the 13th flute made that calendar year.  16 means .016 tubing.  FLD  means Footjoint Lew Deveau. This is the drawn model with pointed arms open hole which was an option in those years.  Now we only make open hole French with choice of toneholes.  I hope this helps!--Alan “ Thank you Alan for your comments!   Condition: This flute is well used, yet in excellent condition. Pitched: Pitched at A=440. Sounding Length: 635 mm. Scale length 223 mm. Embouchure 10.12 x 11.76; edges slightly overcut. Case: With Haynes case. Condition: As Nestor left it (very good). Photo Captions: Made under the proprietorship of Lew Deveau, a true sweetheart, whom we all miss. The headjoint is by Howell Roberts, a very well known wooden headjoint maker. Nestor purchased the flute originally with this set-up. The Howell Roberts headjoint is thinned, so that the lipplate appears raised, and the body is light and responsive. This is a drawn tonehole flute, with French keys. In fact, the mechanism is still essentially the Louis Lot flute. The lovely footjoint touches are from the Barat/Chambille design, with the delicate "gizmo" added. The Haynes tails and backclutch. Nestor Torres got these tails moving, as seen on You Tube in 2005: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jOvMx3d_cpY This view of the underside shows us the "cupped' C# touch, the drawn tone holes with rolled rims, and the signs of lots of good music from Nestor Torres on the pads. This montage of markings shows us that the wall is .016", the Footjoint is by Lew Deveau, and the scale is the Deveau scale. The graceful G# and Bb touches demonstrate a tasteful eye and artful hand. This must have been one of the last flutes made under Lew Deveau (1925-1993). This instrument, and the music Nestor Torres has made with it, are a fine tribute to a master flutemaker.
